What are the 'supporting adults'?
Supporting
Adults are the non-religious version of godparents. They
are usually family or close friends, chosen by the parents
as people they feel will be a positive support and influence
in their child's life. When choosing anyone to be a Supporting
Adult, you should consider whether they are going to be
there for you, to offer support for your child should they
need it. They will play a participating role in the naming
celebration, perhaps by doing a reading or making a short
speech.
It has been traditional for girls to have two female godparents
and one male godparent, and boys to have two male godparents
and one female godparent, but it really is up to you how
many you choose and who they are.
